Just under 70% of adults engage in two or more of the main unhealthy behaviours, including smoking, poor diet leading to overweight and obesity, lack of exercise and drinking too much alcohol. This is worse still for those in lower socioeconomic and educational groups, contributing significantly to the gap in life expectancy and younger onset morbidity between the wealthiest and the most socioeconomically deprived (Buck and Frosini 2012).
