Genetics of Flowering:

Gregor John Mendel showed that the color of the flower id controlled by the action of a pair of heritable factor, now called Genes. They are independent discrete units of heredity. Inductive stimulus should transform the entire shoot apical meristem (SAM) into flower inducing meristem; there again from the same meristem different organs like sepals, petals; stamens and ovary have to develop. The flower is indeed is a modified shoot with leaves representing different parts of the flower.
