In order to secure a sustainable future, consumers need to change their consumption practices (Dietz et al. 2009). One commonly applied method of promoting sustainable consumption behaviour is providing feedback: Given that consumers may not be aware of the (negative) consequences associated with their behaviour, providing feedback regarding these consequences could help to promote behaviour changes and reduce energy consumption, by enabling people to understand the effects of their behaviour on the environment (see Abrahamse et al. 2005 and Fischer 2008 for reviews).
