Whenever possible, estimates of incidence of rotavirus infection,
outcome probabilities, and medical costs were obtained
from data collected from studies conducted by the US Naval
Medical Research Unit, in conjunction with the MoHP and
other private and university-run clinics and hospitals in Egypt.
The majority of these studies consisted of a series of pediatric
birth cohorts and a network of hospital-based surveillance studies
for acute diarrhea for which methodology has been published
elsewhere [7, 8]. To validate our locally derived parameter
estimates or if particular estimates were not available, other
published sources were reviewed.
