The district Murshidabad is situated in the state of West Bengal, in the eastern part of India. The district is in lower Ganga
plain, which may aptly be called the Bengal basin of which twothirds is virtually the deltaic plain of Bangladesh whereas the
remaining one-third is its western counterpart covering the State of West Bengal in India, and is built up by the deltas of Ganga (called the Padma in Bangladesh) and the Brahmaputra (Sen and Prasad, 2002).
