2. Ladchado market
Located by a canal in Ayutthaya, this market and its neighbouring community are named Lad Chado after the Pla Chado (Great Snakehead) because the local waterway was teemed with this fish more than a century ago. Old wooden shop houses in the market are so well preserved that the locals have received an award for architecture conservation in 2006. Many shops in the market are kept as in the old days for public display. Indeed, Lad Chado Market has been the perfect setting for many Thai films including ‘Boonchu’ and ‘Khwamsuk Khong Kati’. The country’s longest wooden building is located nearby at the Wat Lad Chado Market.
