Cambodia’s five main products account for more than 60 percent of its total exports,
a concentration significantly higher than other countries. In addition, the degree of
sophistication of Cambodia’s exports has been low and stagnant: in other words, despite a rapid transformation of the country, the economy does not seem to respond to new comparative advantages. This is evident from a measure of sophistication based on the income per capita of countries exporting products similar to Cambodia (see also Hausmann and Klinger, 2007).
