- Beowulf is story about the Danes, not the English because the story was taken from the Anglo-Saxon whose homeland was Denmark.
- King Hrothgar of the Danes is in trouble.
- His great hall, Heorot—is visited at night by a terrible monster—Grendel—which lives in a lake and comes to kill and eat Hrothgat’s man.
- Beowulf, a brave young man from southern Sweden, hears this trouble and comes to help Hrothgar.
- That night Beowulf waits secretly for Grendel.
- When Grendel comes to the hall, Beowulf attacks it and kills the monster.
- At the end of the story, Beowulf goes back to his own country and has to fight against a dragon.
- He kills the dragon but he is also seriously injured and dies at the end.
- The poem ends with a sorrowful description of Beowulf’s funeral ceremony.
