As faculty and staff educators continue to adapt educational content to the evolving priorities and health needs of individuals and communities of care, specific attention must be given to the prevention and management of childhood obesity. Nurses in both acute care and community settings are faced with the burden of acute and chronic health problems that obese children face. With the significant numbers of overweight and obese American children, both practicing registered nurses (RNs) and advanced practice nurses (APNs) must be prepared to intervene at the individual, family, and community levels to prevent and reduce the incidence of childhood obesity.
