Data Collected Plant emergence counts were done approximately 3 wk after planting with the use of two 0.25 m2 quadrats placed randomly within the plot, taking care to avoid the outside rows. Average plant height was determined by measuring 10 randomly selected plants per plot at the
time of maturity (measured from the soil surface to highest point on the plant). Downey mildew (scale 15; 1 means no mildew and 5 means severe infection) and lodging (scale 15; 1 means no lodging and 5 means plot completely lodged) were rated visually at the time of harvest. Camelina seed was harvested with a Hege 125C (Hege USA, Colwich, KS) small-plot combine and was then placed in a forced air chamber for approximately 48 h. Seed was cleaned using a Clipper seed cleaner (Clipper Seed Cleaning Co., Bluffton, IN). Yields reported were adjusted to 8% moisture. In order to determine the number of branches per plant and number of capsules per plant, the aboveground portion of plants was collected from two randomly selected 0.5-m sections of one row in each seed drill seeded plot and the same size area in each forage seeder seeded plot. Branches were counted on each plant found within the 0.5 m section of row and the average number of branches per plant in each 0.5-m row of plot was calculated. Similarly, capsules were counted for each plant and the average number of capsules per plant was calculated.
