Most US and European sheet and plate prices fall - TSI
The latest reference prices released by The Steel Index (TSI) yesterday, covering transactions reported during last
week, show that most of its North American sheet prices fell since the previous week. All of its European coil and plate
prices dropped, except for its southern European HR coil price which was unchanged. All the regional plate prices
were the biggest fallers, dropping 1.4%-1.9% since the previous week.
The weekly average of last week’s daily US HR coil reference prices FOB Midwest mill declined by $6/short ton from
the average of the previous week's prices to $641/st ($707/metric ton). CR coil price dropped by 0.7% but
HDGalvanized coil price gained by $2/st since last week. The 4-week rolling average delivery lead-time for HR coil
is longer since the previous week at 4.5 weeks. US plate reference price FOB Midwest mill decreased by $12/st to
$808/st ($891/mt).
In northern Europe, the average of last week’s daily HR coil reference prices fell by €4/metric ton from the weekearlier
average. CR coil price dropped by 0.2%, while HDG coil reference price also declined to €528/mt ($658/mt).
4-week rolling average lead-times for CR and HDG coils are shorter. Northern European plate price ex-works
decreased by €10/mt from last week’s level.
The average of last week’s daily HR coil reference prices ex-works in southern Europe was unchanged from the
previous average. CR coil reference price decreased by €4/mt to €475/mt ($592/mt) while HDG coil reference price
dropped by 0.4% since last week. 4-week rolling average lead-times for HR and CR coils are shorter since the
previous week. Southern European plate price ex-works declined by €7/mt from the previous week’s level to €487/mt
($607/mt).
The northern European rebar reference price ex-works slipped by €2/mt since a week earlier to €423/mt ($527/mt).
The average of Platts FOB Black Sea export billet prices for last week dropped sharply by $12/mt to $407/mt, and
the rebar-billet spread rose by $8/mt to $120/mt.
