This comes in agreement with the findings described by Shimada et al. who investigated the effects of unexpected perturbation on the prevention of falls among healthy elderly individuals. To facilitate postural reactions, one group used a treadmill
for training and another group used an exercise protocol. After 6 months of training, the group that used the treadmill demonstrated more improvement in balance and reaction time when compared to the other group. The study revealed that the treadmill group had a greater reduction in falls when compared to the group that underwent the exercise protocol.
