This research overcomes these technical challenges and contributes to filling in knowledge gaps by (i) establishing the reaction kinetics in terms of the rate of solid phase transformation, (ii) measuring the calcium in solution by a alkaline solution dilution procedure to overcome the challenges with precipitation and dilution by using an acid matrix, (iii) tracking the particle size distribution using the Accusizer particle counter, (iv) monitoring the particle morphology evolution using scanning electron microscopy on kinetic samples, (v) demonstrating beneficial effects of particle seeding, and (vi) determining the effects of residence time and slurry hydrodynamics in continuous mode.
