The advantage of the subjective test method is that it enables comprehensive evaluation of the examinee’s ability to systematically express knowledge and the skill to apply the knowledge. Its disadvantage is that marking takes time because markers need to read all of the sentences written by each examinee using different expressions as their answer and that the evaluation is easily influenced by the marker’s subjective view. Another disadvantage is that, if a question was not prepared carefully, the intention of the question could become ambiguous and the examinees give answers that were not expected.
