In other parts of this book are examples of relationship with the environment at very different scales. In Chapter 5 we see how the human population came to be distributed throughout the world ,and in chapter 17 there are examples of political influence distributed within nation-states. The world ,and the nation of the world, are certainly more usual arenas for the geographer’s work that a beach, which is only a tiny section of the human environment.
