Introduction: On 4th July, 2014 the Disease Surveillance Department (DSD) of the Public Health Division, Ghana Health Service received a report from the Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate indicating cholera outbreak in the Accra Metropolis; 16 suspected cases reported between 9th June and 3rd July 2014 with two (2) confirmed by culture at the National Public Health Reference Laboratory, Korle-Bu. Following these reports, a national team comprising of residents from the Ghana Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme (GFELTP) and the Disease surveillance Department (DSD) was dispatched to investigate the outbreak with the objectives of establishing the magnitude, cause and source of the outbreak.
