Both 10% L-Ascorbic acid and 10% Zinc sulfate reduced
the MASI score in melasma patients although 10% Zinc
sulfate gave better results with minimal side effects. Clinical
improvement was noticed after 1 month of treatment
based on reduction in the MASI score. Side effects in
patients treated with 10% L-Ascorbic acid included
redness and pain, whereas 10% Zinc sulfate only caused a
mild itch which resolved within a week. However, further
research is needed using a larger number of patients and a
longer observation period.
