As an instructional leader, you will be bombarded with claims and counterclaims about teaching innovations. Many of these programs and techniques will look promising but it makes sense to ask, “Where's the evidence for learning? Have these innovations been tested in situations similar to your own? Do the strategies improve u tom line: student learning and motivation? What's the evidence? How large a gains, and do they last? If the teaching approaches have not been tested, least consistent with what we know about student attention, cognitive investment, and long-term memory? Do they support understanding (constructivist), remembering (cognitive information processing), and applying practicing (behavioral) new knowledge?
