The southern region is covered with tropical dense rainforests. However, the natural attraction that brings fame to the southern region is the abundant beaches and islands scattering all throughout the region. There are two rainy seasons in the south. May to September is the southwest monsoon period, which brings heavy rains to the west coast of the region.
On the other hand, November to February is the northeast monsoon period bringing heavy rains to the east coast.
Therefore, most festivals and events focus on beach and sea activities like water sports. However, there are also unique traditional cultures. Some festivals and cultures harmonize among Thais, Muslims and Chinese. Religion significantly affects the regional cultures and the way of life of southern people.
