John Arnone says we need to eat meat because without it there would not be enough food to feed the world. Just the opposite is true!
Since most plant food is fed to livestock, not people, it would be much easier to feed people in a vegan world. In America, for example, 80 per cent of our corn is fed to livestock. Thus if Americans cut their consumption of beef by 10 per cent we could save enough grain to feed 60 million people.
As for his argument that some animals (not most, by the way) eat meat - aside from the fact that other animal species have different dietary needs than humans, it is we humans alone who have the capacity to empathise with the creatures we eat. It is outrageous to suggest that spiders should be our role models.
