Coriander is referred to as bari" or"dhanayaka'' in the Sanskrit literature; in Hindi it is called Dhania, while Dhane in Bengali. It is a native plant of the eastern Mediterranean from where it may have spread to India, China and rest of the world 13l. In the food industry, coriander is approved for food use by the US Food and Drug Administration, the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association and the Council of Europe, and the plant can be used as spice, medicine and a raw material in food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries.
