Research Design
This study is designed as a holistic case study with embedded units examining
transition programs in the Bay Area. The case is defined as Transition to Kindergarten
programs in the Bay Area. The embedded units are three individual counties in the Bay
Area. The unit of analysis is defined as a single transition program within a county. The
time boundaries of the case are January-May 2014.
Context
Bay area interviews. The participants in this study are coordinators from three
different transition programs located in the Bay Area. These counties were selected
because they have each developed a unique transition to kindergarten model. The three
counties featured in this study are: Sherman County, Clifton County, and Adams County
(all pseudonyms). Sherman County has a population of 1,781,642 people. There are
fifteen cities within the county. The racial makeup of Sherman county is: 50.9% White,
