University Road Conditions Cause Accident on Campus
The condition of the University roads was the cause of an accident involving a car driven by a campus leader at 3 a.m. this morning. As he was driving a car full of other campus leaders to their dormitories, he hit one of the ruts at the corner of Campus Road and Central Avenue. The ear spun around, hit a nearby tree and rolled oven, before nst one of the freshman dormitories. No one was hurt. Other campus leaders in the car were Stephen H. Framlsh, Robert S Goodie, Jeffery B. Retep, and ,1 Y. Turk, all '58. on their way back from the Alpha and Beta honorary picnic at Enfield Park. Framish suggested repairing the road, but this suggestion was unanimously defeated, due to the majority of opinion that the ruts add "excitement to the dullness of driving on campus." A campus patrolman quickly drove to the scene of the accident and tried to take down the names of the men. He swore that they would be reported to the proctor. The driver protested and proceeded to walk around one o( the ruts as proof of his sobriety. When he returned, halt an hour later, the patrolman said that he was not convinced and would report the incident to the proper authorities. When he turned around to get the mens names on paper, all that was left was the. rutty road. . The campus patrol, working m conjunction with the Ithaca Police Department, is searchiog the campus for these men. They have suggested that a sizeable reward will be offered for information about their whereabouts.
