The mean level of CXCL5 was significantly depressed in malarial positives in comparison to the control group; while for CCL28, a positive association with raised mean concentration was recorded.
The other chemokines analysed showed no significant variations between positives and controls but a positive correlation with parasite load was noted for all.
There were significant differences between malaria positive and negative individuals for CXCL5 (χ2 = 708.48; p b 0.001) and CCL28 (χ2 = 235.62; p N 0.001).
A majority of symptomatic individuals presented with fever, althragia, pallor, headache, mild splenomegally and mild hepatomegally.
Samples of individuals that presented with other symptoms outside the aforementioned ones were not analysed due to limited number.
The mean concentration of CXCL11 was higher in symptomatic than asymptomatic
