The population of a country or a culture may be another predictor of PD. Generally, larger cultures score higher on PD. As the size of any group increase, it becomes unwieldy and difficult to manage informally. This is true of larger organizations. In larger aggregations, informal relationships must yield to formal rules, bureaucracies, and hierarchical relationships. For cultures with large populations to function effectively, social and political hierarchies must be created, causing the PD factor to increase.
