Soil type
Based on the colour and the size of the particles,We can classify soil into three types. They are clay soil, loamy soil, and sandy soil.
Sandy soil is brown. It has a small amount of nutrients for plant growth. Its particles are coarse. When you rub it in your hand ,you will see that it will not stick together. This is the type of soil that air and water flow through very easily.
Clay soil is rich in humus but does not allow air and water to flow through it easily So,it is not suitable for growing plants.
Different plants grow well in different types of soil. Plants that need a large amount of water such as rice and water lilies, grow well in clay soil. Water does not flow through clay soil easily, so it can hold water very well. Some plants which need only little of water , such as coconut, cactus, and tuber crop, grow well in sandy soil. Most plants grow well in loamy soil because it allows air and water to flow through it well and is rich in nutrients for plants.
1.1 List the soil types based on their particle size from largest to smallest?
1. In which type of soil does water flow the fastest?
In which type of soil does water flow the slowest?
2. Which soil type is number 2?
3. Which soil type can be used to make pots?
4. Which soil type is suitable as a place to live for insects?
5. Which soil type is suitable for growing plants?
Soil can be used in many different ways; places for animals to live, water storage, and making appliances.
Small living things in soil, called microorganisms, decompose dead plants and animals. Decaying plant and animal matter become humus. Humus has nutrients which are an importan source of food production in plants. When plants grow up, they will become food for humans and other animals.
Some animals live on the ground and others live underground by digging the soil. This makes them safe from the predators.
