3. Descriptive results3.1. Sample profilesAnalysis of the study was based on an approximately equalsample size across gender (male 48%; n ¼ 1000). The simple t-testshowed a significant difference (p < 0.01) between the percentagesof males and females in the sample. The average age of the respondents was about 47 years old, with the lowest being 17 yearsold. There is also a significant difference between the percentagesof individuals below 35 years old and those 35 years old or older(p < 0.01). The average education duration of the respondents wasabout three years, reflecting a normal period of higher education inNorway. About 74% of the respondents have an occupation, andabout 48% reported that they work in the energy (oil and gas)sector. This information is very plausible, as Greater Stavanger isknown as the oil capital of Norway. The survey also found that thegroup of individuals who regularly drive a car is dominant in thesurvey. More than 50% of the respondents expressed ‘very often’ forcar use and ‘often’ for bicycle use. The majority of the respondentsalso expressed ‘rare’ for public transport use.
