There are three types of markets in Korea. They are traditional market, mart and department store, which are relatively new. The traditional market has been existed from the old days. The traditional market itself can be categorized in two types. The first one is the general market like Namdaemun or Gyeongdong Medicine market. The general market usually located in big cities and the stores open everyday selling various products. Another type is the periodical market, such as five-day or ten-day market. These are usually located in the provinces. The last one is the mart, of which number has rapidly surged recently and is threatening the existence of the traditional market. In this sense, there are more efforts to revive the traditional market. In a mart, It is easier to shop as there is spacious parking lot and all the stores are gathered in a building. Besides, the price is less expensive than that of the department store, and seems tidier than traditional market. These could be the reason for many Koreans often to go to the mart.
