Scenario - 1
Kim Randal and Rachel Smith both work in reservations at the local Holiday Inn at the front reception desk in the hotel.
While greeting guests they both notice that a celebrity guest enters the lobby.
Kim greets the celebrity guest warmly as always. The celebrity guest introduces himself as Mr. Robinson. Both Kim and Rachel realise that the celebrity guest is using an alias for his booking.
When the celebrity guest leaves the reception area, Rachel tells Kim that she recently saw the celebrity guest in a concert. She is a big fan and starts telling Kim about his wife who is a well-known local artist. She then disappears behind the reception wall and proceeds to use her phone. Kim is busy with other reservation duties and does not notice that Rachel is calling her friends and telling them what just happened.
Later during the day Bob, from finance, informs Kim that Rachel was calling all her friends telling them about the celebrity guest’s arrival and stay.
After lunch an attractive woman approaches the reception desk and asks for Mr. Robinson’s room.
Kim overhears Rachel on her phone to someone discussing the celebrity guest and the arrival of his visitor. Kim asks her to finish the phone call immediately and advises her to do her work and reminds her of her responsibilities and professionalism.
Rachel gets upset and calls Kim uptight and explains that it is not as if she has gone up to the room taking photos on her mobile and selling it to magazines and then adds; “may be that is what I should be doing!” and storms off to the bathroom.
Kim knows that she must address Rachel’s behaviour. She is aware that Rachel is only 22 and relatively new to the team however; she has undergone all the initial training and orientation.
Kim is quite concerned about Rachel’s attitude toward the celebrity guest’s privacy while staying with the Holiday Inn and Rachel’s blatant disregard for workplace procedures and her disrespect of Kim’s role.
