Police and doctors have yet to pinpoint the cause of death of a 46-year-old Italian national who was found dead at a hotel he ran in Phuket early Sunday morning, The Phuket News reported today.

Officers from Kathu Police Station responded to a call at about 7:00 about the death of an Italian national at a small hotel on Phra Metta Pung Mueang Sai Kor Rd. They arrived on the scene with rescue volunteers and medical staff from Patong Hospital shortly later.

Police questioned a 15-year-old minor who was identified as an adopted daughter of the deceased. She told police she had last seen him at around 20:30 on Friday when Mr Rauseo asked her to help him look after the hotel’s service counter in his place so that he could go up to his room and rest.

The Thai wife of the deceased discovered the man’s body Sunday morning. She said she had been away on business in Chumphon and had just returned to Patong Sunday morning at around 6:50. When the Mr Rauseo failed to answer knocks on his door, she used her spare key to open the door and found his body, she told police.

According to her, Mr Rauseo did not drink alcohol but was a smoker. He also drank a lot of soft drinks, had a sleeping disorder and had undergone cervical surgery 3-4 months earlier. Mr Rauseo had reportedly run the hotel since October last year.
