Returning to study later
Many students have a break for a year or two after leaving school and then go on to study at university or TAFE. This means that they apply to university as a non-current school leaver and may have entry requirements to meet outside of an ATAR.
Returning to study later may also increase your son or daughter's options for getting in to uni - known as entry pathways.
Many people continue to work part-time when they return to study. In fact if your son or daughter is unsure about what direction to take after school, joining the workforce for a few years can be a positive step.
Getting a job can benefit your son or daughter by:
helping them find out what they want to do and, just as importantly, rule out what they don't want to do,
helping them to mature and become independent, and
allowing them to save some money to pay for further study.
