The subplots treatments were the material the bales were
wrapped in for storage: one set with mesh net wrapped the
outside, excluding the two ends, of the round bale (net); while
the other set, in addition to the net applied to the outside, with
high tensile strength film wrapped both outside and the ends
of the round bales (net & film). The net wrap is a high density
polyethylene (HDPE) 1.52 m wide, while the film is linear low
polyethylene (LLPE) 0.51 m or 0.76 m wide with minimum
tensile strength of 60 MPa (MPa). The film makes bales air and
water-tight. Thus, the two wrap materials in the treatments
formed an aerobic (net) vs. anaerobic (net & film) storage
environment for bales (see Fig. 1).
