Based on ABS data : data compiled by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) indicates total production of honey of just under 19,000 tonnes in 1994/95. However, these data are gathered only from beekeepers operating more than 320 hives, which excludes at least one-third of production. Industry opinion is that the ABS data has long been at variance with data compiled by the Australian Horticultural Corporation (AHC), which is based on levies paid (see below). Production data from this source is therefore only partial, and must be considered as very conservative.
