(4) Selecfion of large sprocket. Given the velocity ratio, V, = 1200/378, the teeth number of the large sprocket is then N = V, x 20 = 63.5 (use 63).
(5) Alfernaliues. Alternative selections can be carried out by modifying the input parameters, chain number and strand number. For example, the use of chain number 40 will need two strands, as the design horsepower is now 8.33 h.p. (15/1.7), where 1.7 is the corresponding multiple strand factor [S]. By virtue of eqn (1 I), the teeth number n with the 40-2 chain is found to be 23.
(6) Chain length. From eqn (7) the exact chain length is found to be 114.305 pitches and is subsequently corrected to 114 pitches to avoid the use of an offset link. The value was 114.8 pitches in Ref. [8] where eqn (9) was used.
(7) Center distance. By virtue of eqn (8) the exact center distance is found to be 35.8447 pitches. The approximate value using eqn (10) is 35.6 pitches [8].
