In this study, we determined the completemitochondrial genome sequence
of the raspberry weevil A. superciliosus, the first completely sequenced
and annotated genome of a species in the tribe Aterpini of the
weevil subfamily Cyclominae. The assembled and annotatedmitogenome
has been deposited in the Organelle Genome repository of the NCBI
with the accession code KF785807. This mitogenome exhibited similar
characteristics in the genomic architecture and gene order in comparison
to other genomes within the Curculionidae, with the exception of
the subfamilies Entiminae and Hyperinae, which have rearrangements
of some tRNAs (tRNA-Ala and tRNA-Glu) and insertions of tRNA-like sequences
between the NAD3 and NAD5 genes. The results of our phylogenetic
analyses supported the monophyly of Cyclominae and recovered
this clade in a sister group relationship to a clade with Entiminae and
Hyperinae. The monophyly of these three subfamilies defines a critical
transition to an ectophagous lifestyle in the larvae from an ancestrally
endophagous larval lifestyle in all other lineages. The sequenced
mitogenome of A. superciliosus can provide basic data for future studies
investigating population history, molecular systematics, stress ecophysiology
and phylogeography
