With all the praise and accolade that Hemingway gets I have to be honest I had no idea what to expect going into this. And I barely know what what to think now. This is definitely a modernist work and some of the literary style/tropes that Hemingway was known for (extraordinarily simple dialogue and description the "iceberg theory" of plot device) are represented here.
Without spoiling I will say that this story is very nice dialogue exercise. It is a cryptic Seinfeld-like conversation between two people that the more you read on the more you realize how incredibly serious the topic of their conversation is and it is done so well that it makes the story worth the 4 stars in the end (though I wish we could give half-stars since a 3.5 might be more accurate).
I hope to read more Hemingway in the future but I was impressed by this introduction (I think, might have read some thing else before) to this giant of 20th-Century
