The subjects of this study were 20 women, aged between 18 and 55 years, and having had at least one hospital birth followed by at least one planned home birth. They made up small focus group and discussed their thoughts and feelings of their birth choice and experiences. Qualitative description was the research design, whereby focus groups were conducted with women who had hospital births and subsequently chose home birth. Five focus groups were conducted (N = 20), recorded, and transcribed verbatim. Qualitative content analysis was undertaken allowing themes to emerge.
