The authors examined voluntary national-level adoptions based on a sample of 38 jurisdictions and found that countries with weaker investor protection were more likely to adopt IFRS. However, it is not clear whether adopting countries invest to establish proper enforcement that actually bonds them to a higher quality reporting.
