The crude methanol extract of the dried leaves and twigs and stems of Gardenia campanulata were partitioned with n-hexane-water to give n-hexane extract. The crude n-hexane extract, exhibiting anti-inflammatory activity, was firstly separated by column chromatography over silica gel using gradient mixtures of n-hexane and acetone as eluent. Further purification by repeated column chromatography and crystallization yielded 5 compounds.
