A newexperimentalapproach,hereinreferredtoasamodifiedtransfermatrixmethod,
forevaluatingnormalincidencesoundtransmissionlossofmultilayersolidmaterials,is
presented. Asitisthekeyelementforpredictingthetransmissionlossofamaterial,the
originaltransfermatrixwasmeasureddirectlyviaastandingwavetubemethod.During
predictivestudiesofmultilayermaterials,thetransfermatricesofsolidlayerswere
modifiedinaccordwithdatafromthevibrationofthinplatesandthemasslaweffect.
Wevalidatedthefeasibilityofthismethodthroughexperimentsonseveraldifferent
kindsofmaterials.Thismethodcanbeappliedindesigningmultilayersoundinsulation
materialsthatarewidelyusedinautomotiveengineeringandbuildingacoustics
