CorylusavellanaL.representsaneconomicallyimportantcropintheEuropeanUnion.Severalprotocolsofhazelnutmicropropagationhavebeentestedbuthavenotyetprovidedeffectivemethodstoallowlarge-scalepropagationforcommercialpurposes,duetopoorproliferationandyield.Theaimofthisworkwastostudytheinvitroeffectsofcoconutwater(CW)incombinationswithgibberellinsandcytokininsonproliferationandgrowthofhazelnutinvitroandtheeffectofexplantsorientationonshootgrowth.Singleaxillarybudsfrommaturetreesof‘TondaGentiledelleLanghe’cultivarcollectedfromsuckersandcrownwereculturedonamodifiedDKWsemi-solidbasalmediumenrichedwithcoconutwater,BAP,IAAandGA3inseveralcombinations.Theadditionof20%coconutwaterincreasedthenumberofadventitiousshootsperexplantandthecombinationof2mg/LBAP,0.01mg/LIAAand0.5mg/LGA3promotedmultiplicationandshootselongation.Shootmultiplicationandgrowthwerealsoaffectedbyexplantorientation.Thehighestratesoccurredwithsuckerexplantsinthehorizontalposition.
