Counting the cost
Some of the financial costs associated with the effects of bullying and harassment are obvious, such as the costs associated with fines, rehabilitation and legal damages. However, there are other additional financial costs that are less obvious and may remain hidden.
A study into the impacts and costs of bullying and harassment has estimated that the combined costs of the effects of bullying to Australian businesses could range from $6 billion to $35 billion each year.Ref: Sheehan, M.J., McCarthy, P., Barker, M.C., and Henderson, M. 2001, A Model for Assessing the Impact and Costs of Bullying, Paper presented at the Standing Conference on Organizational Symbolism (SCOS), Trinity College Dublin. 30th June to 4th July 2001, Griffith University, Brisbane.
