PEER-NOMINATED BULLYING
In order to avoid overlooking potential differences between (a) the personal
experience of being a bully(/victim) and (b) the bully(/victim) reputation
among the peers, is has been suggested to combine self-reports with
peer nominations when conducting research on peer aggression and bullying
(Graham et al., 2007; Obermann, 2011b). Thus, the current study
also included a measure for peer-nominated bullying. According to the
abovementioned definition of bullying, the children were asked to nominate
classmates they currently regarded as bullies: “In your opinion, which
of your classmates are bullying others?” The children were also asked to
describe what kind of bullying behavior the bullies showed. In the introduction
to the questionnaire it was further stated that it was acceptable to write
“nobody” if a participant was of the opinion that none of the classmates were
bullies.
