Tropical dry forests are among the most endangered ecosystems
in the world (Janzen, 1986; Hoekstra et al., 2005). Most of the
remaining area covered by tropical dry forest in the Americas is
located in Mexico and Bolivia (Janzen, 1986), with the largest
extant patch in the latter country (Killeen et al., 2006) that also
boasts one of the most biologically diverse dry forests in the world
(Parker et al., 1993).
