started his own YouTube channel in September 2009, posting his own acoustic covers. He attended the Berklee College of Music from which he graduated in 2013.[6] In October 2011, Ellen DeGeneres announced that she had signed Puth and Emily Luther to her label, eleveneleven, after seeing their cover of Adele's "Someone Like You". Puth and Luther performed the song on the show. On January 25, 2012, they came back to The Ellen DeGeneres Show and performed Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" and an original written by Puth titled "Break Again" (co-written with Robert Gillies). Charlie has since left eleveneleven and signed with Atlantic Records. He has released two independent albums, "The Otto Tunes" (2010)[7] and "Ego" (2013),[8] but the records were later removed from iTunes after Puth signing to Atlantic Records.
Puth was credited with the production and writing of songs and jingles for fellow YouTube personalities. He wrote the theme song for Shane Dawson's 'Shane and Friends' Podcast, the intro jingle for the videos of the Vlogger Family the Shaytards, the original theme song for Charles Trippy's vlog "Internet Killed Television",[9] a song for the YouTube collab channel/group Our 2nd Life's tour and movie, as well as several singles for Our 2nd Life member Ricky Dillon.[10]
