The Executive Summary of the research on cyberbullying
in 25 countries by Microsoft Corporation conducted in 2012
reveal that Morocco ranks 7th place. The study shows that
40 % of Moroccan children have been bullied online. In
Egypt, this report shows a 27 % prevalence rate thus putting
Egypt in 21st place. Although there have been fears and
several newspaper reports on cyber bullying in Nigeria and
Kenya; the researcher was not able to access any research
report on cyberbullying activity neither was it possible to
conduct field research in Nigeria and Kenya due to financial
and time constraints. Akor (2012) writing in Daily Trust—a
Nigerian newspaper, reports the experience of one Mrs.
Ismaila who discovered the cyberbullying of Fatima her
11 years old daughter. Fatima was constantly being bullied
online and described on her Facebook wall as ‘an ugly,
brainless ‘fatty bom bom’—(a derogatory Nigerian term for
an overweight child). When she discussed the matter with
her friend, she found out that her friend’s son too had been a
victim of cyberbullying. His classmates posted nude pictures
of women on his Facebook wall to mock his innocence
calling him names like ‘Mr. Sanctimonious and Mr. Holy’.
