The accidental Hero
Speed skater Steven Bradbury,created history in Salt Lake City in 2002 when he became the first Australian to win an Olympic gold medal at the Winter Olympics. Have you ever wondered if speed skating is dangerous? It certainly Was for Steven.
1.As a teenager, hit his head against a wall during one of his training sessions. He was in a coma for three days with a cracked skull. It took him a year to recover.
2.In 1994, during race, another racer's skate hit him and cut his leg badly. Steven had 111 stitches and lost four litres of blood
3.Eight years later during a race, Steven crashed with another skater and broke his neck.
4.Steven kept working hard. His passion for the sport finally paid off. The world's unluckiest athlete when from last place to Olympic gold medal winner when all the skaters ahead of him fell over and he skated past them to victory. "I don't know if everything sits well on my stomach now I won the race," he said, "but I've paid my dues, I've had my share of bad luck. What goes round,comes round.
