Flowering and the number of flower buds are generally accelerated and increased, respectively, at high light integrals in Hibiscus radiatus Cav. (Warner and Erwin, 2003). Controlling temperature treatment during bulb vernalization (Roh and Wilkins, 1977b) and manipulation of shoot photoperiod to emerged shoots of nonvernalized bulbs of Lilium longiflorum Thunb. (Roh and Wilkins,1977a) also increased the number of flower buds; however, flowering was delayed significantly. However, information on the requirements of temperature and light irradiance on flowering and especially to increase the number of flower buds without delaying flowering is not available at present on production or flowering of S. cardinalis as a potted greenhouse plant.
