The blood meal and meat meal used in
Experiment were satisfactory replacements
of soybean meal as a source of lysine and other
essential amino acids, as there were no significant
differences in rate of gain or diet utilization
among treatments There did appear
to be an effect of blood meal and meat
meal on palatability. Feed consumption during
the 24- to 55-kg period was significantly different
among treatments, Pigs fed the soybean
meal diet consumed significantly more feed
than pigs fed the diets containing soybean meal
and blood or meat meal during the period.
Slightly less daily feed was consumed by pigs
fed the blood meal diets during the 55- to 97-
kg period, but pigs fed the soybean meal-meat
meal diet consumed approximately the same
amount of feed as pigs fed the soybean meal
diet.
