Some day later there were strange stories in the newspapers, stories about young children who went out at night and didn’t go home until the next morning. All these children had drops of blood and two little wounds on their necks. Van Helsing read these stories and he brought the newspapers to Mina. Mina thing these two little wounds are like Lucy’ wounds. Van Helsing told Mina that the vampire who is taking blood from these children is Lucy. Mina was very angry and she couldn’t believe it. So that night he took her to Lucy’s tomb. Van Helsing began to open the coffin. It was empty. For Mina, it was a terrible surprise. The next day Van Helsing and Mina went back into the tomb again and opened the coffin. This time Lucy’s body lay there. She died more than a week ago but she didn’t look dead. Lucy is now one of the un-dead. They send for Arthur. Arthur couldn’t believe it but in the end he agreed to come with them to the tomb. They saw something white. It was moving to them. It’s Lucy. Arthur opened his arms to her. Van Helsing ran between them and held out his little gold cross. Lucy stopped and stood back from it. The next day they went back to the tomb. Arthur held the piece of wood over Lucy’s heart and brought the hammer down hard. Lucy’s face was pale and still but it was now quiet and restful. Then Van Helsing closed the coffin again, this time forever.
